This page gives news on various projects that the Town Council and other local organisations working with the community have in mind or are working on for the benefit of the town.

A429 Fosseway traffic lights at Unicorn (A436) & Evesham Road (A424)

Both to have right turning lanes from A429 north. Evesham Road lights to have new pedestrian controlled crossing at
north A429 lights. Turn left from A429 into A424 to become “Give Way” controlled and not controlled by lights.
Back Walls to have speed reduction system. Awaiting GCC proposal – probably to include speed humps.

·        MAJOR FREE EVENT 18th August – Medieval Fayre in Stow Square to celebrate the 900th Anniversary of the first Royal Charter given to Stow by King Henry I. There will be knights fighting on foot, a mounted knight parading around, medieval tents, period craft stalls and demonstrations and opportunities to join in.

  "STOW 2020" - the local group working on issues specific to Stow as a Market Town.
A wide-ranging survey of residents' & business needs and aspirations has been carried out.  This will be used to generate a Healthcheck on Stow & the surrounding villages to help secure future project funding.  Stow 2020 meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month – chairman 07900 971745.

·         Market Towns Forum - the county-wide group working on issues relating to Market Towns including ours, that has good contact with the Countryside Agency and South West Regional Development Agency, as well as the Gloucestershire Rural Community Council.

 Work in the Cemetery - Stow Council attend the annual Remembrance services at The Cross in The Square on 11th Nov & in St Edward’s Church on the nearest Sunday to 11th (both 10:30 am).
Stow Council also honours the fallen at their war graves in Stow cemetery, immediately after the service on 11th Nov.

·         Allotments area – the new central access road has increased the take up of plots.  Co-operation between plot holders & Council is producing continuing improvements to watering, ground clearance & general use.
From 2007, rent due January - late payers charged double rent or lose them.  Neglected plots will not be re-rented to the neglecting plot holder.

·         The Wells - refurbished summer 2001. Regular annual ongoing maintenance - including annual cleaning out.  Occasional vandalism blocking drains is repaired regularly.  

·         Grass Cutting - the council now cut all public grassed areas including the roadside verges within Stow.

There is an annual tree survey, with any maintenance work carried out each autumn.

·         Horse Fair - Council group working with other bodies (CDC, GCC, police, Gypsy community) to seek improvements.
·         Youth Club - Youth Club building in George Alley between The Square/High Street and Fosseway currently being refurbished and new youth leaders recruited –
