Town Council & Local Government

 

Like most other English towns and villages, Stow-on-the-Wold has many levels of government.

At the local level, Stow-on-the-Wold has a Town Council to represent the residents of the parish.
The council clerk is Michael Corker.  The office is on 01451 832585.  Email http://www.info@stowonthewold.net/

The office is St Edward’s House, The Square, Stow on the Wold, Glos GL54  1AB (it is on the first floor above St Edward’s Café)
Office hours are 10am until 1pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.

The Town Council is responsible for grass verges, allotments, churchyard & cemetery maintenance, play & leisure facilities at King George’s Field, the wells, the fountain, town noticeboards & the cross.  It represents Stow to other decision making bodies at district & county level.
Council liaises & co-operates with other local organisations such as Stow Civic Society, Stow 2020 (local volunteers working for improvements to the town).

  The next level of local government is Cotswold District Council. Stow-on-the-Wold is in the Beacon-Stow Ward.

Our District Councillors are Mrs Merryl Phillips (01285 623870) merryl.phillips@cotswold.gov.uk & David Penman (01285 623808) dpenman@zoom.co.uk

The District Council is responsible for, amongst other things :-
   countryside & landscape
   development control & planning
   food safety/health & safety
   leisure services & museums
   waste management

At the third level is the Gloucestershire County Council,
and our County Councillor is Mr Barry Dare (Leader of GCC). (01386 700457, 01452 425213)

The County Council is responsible for, amongst other things :-
   education
   environment, including highways
   social services
   registration of births, marriages and deaths
   libraries
   fire and rescue

Our Member of Parliament is Mr Geoffrey Clifton-Brown. He represents the Cotswold constituency, which includes many of the towns and villages surrounding Stow-on-the-Wold.
