Welcome to the Town of
Stow-on-the-Wold
Stow-on-the-Wold is a small, but
well-known, market town of about 2000 people set in the Cotswold Hills and near
the north-east corner of the English
Set on a hill top, it stands beside the
Like many of the Cotswold towns and
villages, the houses were built with the very distinctive mellow Cotswold stone
from the local quarries. Many of the buildings date back to the 16th century.
Stow-on-the-Wold lies
between
St Edwards Church was built between
the 11th and 15th centuries, and the 88' high tower was completed in 1447.
St Edwards Hall was built in 1878,
and now houses the Public Library as well being the venue for many activities
in the spacious upstairs hall (see What's on in Stow).

The main-line railway to London
Paddington has stations at Kingham (4 miles) and Moreton-in-Marsh (4 miles).
For a more historic and
nostalgic railway journey, Stow-on-the-Wold is only ten miles from the steam
Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway at Toddington.
