Welcome to the Town of Stow-on-the-Wold

UK MapStow-on-the-Wold is a small, but well-known, market town of about 2000 people set in the Cotswold Hills and near the north-east corner of the English county of Gloucestershire.

Set on a hill top, it stands beside the Roman Fosse Way at its junction with six other roads, and where a settlement has existed since the Iron Age.

The Market CrossLike many of the Cotswold towns and villages, the houses were built with the very distinctive mellow Cotswold stone from the local quarries. Many of the buildings date back to the 16th century.

Stow-on-the-Wold lies between Bristol (50 miles), Birmingham (45 miles) and Oxford (30 miles).

St Edwards ChurchSt Edwards Church was built between the 11th and 15th centuries, and the 88' high tower was completed in 1447.

St Edwards HallSt Edwards Hall was built in 1878, and now houses the Public Library as well being the venue for many activities in the spacious upstairs hall (see What's on in Stow).
